URBAN svela la Città e i suoi segreti La street photography - o fotografia di strada - è la forma d’arte che racconta al meglio la contemporaneità. Il termine
“street” indica un luogo generico segnato dall’attività umana, e in questo volume si è scelto di soffermarsi in particolare sulla Città, in quanto luogo in cui convergono gli innumerevoli aspetti dell’oggi. La Città, le sue strade, i suoi edifici, i suoi spazi, portano con loro ampie testimonianze di storia, cultura “alta” e popolare, interazioni sociali e contraddizioni. La fotografia di strada riproduce attimi di assoluta realtà, ai quali ogni fotografo imprime una propria cifra artistica. La street photography è un genere in grado di rivelare le infinite sfaccettature del tessuto urbano e le vite che lo popolano. Spesso questi istanti visivi raccontano più di ciò che mostrano: aspetti inediti della società, attimi di vita vissuta, angoli segreti della Città, contrasti e contraddizioni della modernità, celebrazioni della bellezza o narrazioni del degrado urbano. La tecnica della street poggia quasi interamente sull’occhio, sul tempismo e la sensibilità personale dell’autore, che gli permettono di essere lì, nel posto giusto, al momento giusto, per comporre l’inquadratura che restituisce quel fugace frammento di quotidianità. Il fotografo di strada mette in risalto l’inosservato, rende speciale e unica la normalità. La fotografia di strada congela in un istante senza fine attimi di assoluta realtà, unici, irripetibili e contrassegnati dal graffio anch’esso unico e irripetibile dell’artista. Piccole storie quotidiane condensate in una frazione di secondo possono raccontare un intero periodo storico. Scatti talvolta ricchi di pathos, talvolta in apparenza banali ma ricchi di spunti di riflessione. L’obiettivo che si pone questo progetto editoriale dedicato alla street photography è quello di offrire al lettore una serie di micro-storie narrate attraverso le immagini. Le immagini, autentiche e immediate, sono accomunate da un elemento, a volte evidente, altre appena accennato. Le storie sono raggruppate in quattro capitoli dedicati all’origine del mondo, processo che passa per l’evoluzione animale
(Origins/Instinct), si evolve per raggiungere il progresso (Progress) e si conclude nella supposta realizzazione del sé, che a volte è perdersi senza un senso (Endgame). Tutte assieme compongono un collage organico che svela la Città e suoi
segreti. Le foto che compongono queste storie sono state selezionate dalla classifica di URBAN 2015, concorso fotografico internazionale che vede ogni anno migliaia di foto in gara e centinaia di partecipanti da tutto il mondo. I fotografi presenti in questo libro utilizzano la loro sensibilità per avvicinarsi ai protagonisti della vita di ogni giorno.

URBAN unveils the City and its secrets Street photography is a form of art that best describes contemporary living. The term “street� indicates a place in general marked by human activity and this publication is specifically dedicated to the City as a place of convergence of numerous aspects of today. The City, its streets, its buildings, its spaces are rich storages of history, of both high and popular culture, social interactions and contradictions. Street photography reproduces moments of absolute reality to which each photographer impresses his own artistic mark. Street photography is a genre able to reveal countless facets of the urban fabric and the lives that inhabit it. Such visual instants often tell more than they show: new aspects of society, moments of real life, secret corners of the city, contrasts and contradictions of modernity, celebrations of beauty or narratives of urban decay. The technique of street photography rests almost entirely on the eye, the timing and the author’s personal sensitivity, which allow him to be there, in the right place, at the right time, to create the image that brings back that fleeting fragment of everyday life. street photographer highlights the unnoticed and makes normality special and unique. Street photography freezes moments of absolute reality in an endless instant and makes such moments become unique, unrepeatable and marked by the also unique and unrepeatable touch of the artist. Little everyday stories condensed into a fraction of a second are able to tell an entire historical period. Such shots are sometimes rich in pathos, sometimes apparently banal but rich in food for thought. The aim of this editorial project dedicated to street photography is to provide the reader with an overview of micro-stories told through images. These authentic and immediate images have in common an element which is either obvious or just hardly visible. The stories are divided into four chapters dedicated to the origin of the world, a process that goes through the animal evolution (Origins/Instinct), it evolves to achieve progress (Progress) and ends in the apparent self-realization that sometimes leads to getting lost without a meaning (Endgame). The photos all together make up an organic collage that reveals the City and its secrets. The photos that narrate these stories have been selected from the URBAN ranking. URBAN is an annual international photography competition which gathers thousands of competing photos and hundreds of participants from all over the world. The photographers inserted in this publication use their sensitivity when approaching the protagonists or everyday life.
